The tank model is the starting point for a lid, but the equipment around its top matters too. Before ordering, gather the details that show how you use the aquarium. A few clear photographs can explain a layout more effectively than a long description.
Start with the exact aquarium
Note the brand, model and generation, plus any modifications or bracing. Avoid relying on a name that looks similar to yours. If your aquarium is custom-built, older or not listed, contact us with photographs and measurements so we can discuss the appropriate design.
For an unusual shape, ask which dimensions we need before taking measurements. Keep the units visible on any sketch and identify which side is the front.
Map the equipment around the top
List light mounts, cables, feeders and pipework. Take a photograph looking down onto the aquarium, followed by close-ups where equipment crosses the proposed lid position. Include the equipment you intend to use after the lid arrives, if it differs from the current setup.
On product pages, select the cut-outs relevant to your equipment and explain the layout in the notes. If an option is unclear, send the photograph and ask before placing your order.
Think about feeding and access
Consider your normal feeding routine and how you reach the tank for cleaning. A feeding opening and an optional feeder cup are separate choices. Check the available options on the lid you are ordering rather than assuming accessories shown elsewhere are included.
Decide what you need from covers
Our lids use polycarbonate frames with UV-protected mesh. The mesh is glued in place to give a stronger hold and reduce the risk of it loosening or coming out. It is not replaceable. Removable evaporation covers are available on selected products. Mesh leaves an open surface; it should not be chosen on the assumption that it will stop evaporation. Ask about the cover options for your aquarium and monitor temperature and water use after changing surface coverage.
If you are considering the cat-proof option, discuss your requirements with us so we can explain the combination of solid areas and mesh proposed for your lid.
Check the artwork before approval
After purchase, you receive visual artwork to review before manufacture. Check the tank details, dimensions and every cut-out position. Compare the drawing with your actual equipment and tell us about discrepancies or changes before approving it.
Production takes 10–15 working days from artwork approval, with delivery additional. Please read the cancellation terms in our FAQs before approving your bespoke design.
